Youth and Environmental Engagement- A vision of inclusivity

During the past week, the new mayor also met with several NGO’s and friends of the ocean alike who are all excited to join the mayor in her ‘Reducing our Carbon Footprints’ initiative to make Victoria a greener and safer place to live. Mayor Josy Michaud-Payet met with young environmental enthusiast Christian Lionnet to explore initiatives to reduce air pollution and promote cleaner urban spaces by restoring mangroves in key places across Victoria. The mayor welcomed the proposal, viewing it as a valuable opportunity to strengthen youth participation in building a cleaner and more sustainable Victoria.

Paradis des Enfants gets new flying chair attraction

The Mayor’s Office, in collaboration with Paradis des Enfants Management and the board of directors of Paradis des Enfants Entertainment Limited (PDEEL), unveiled a brand-new attraction, the flying chair ride, at the Paradis des Enfants on Saturday afternoon. The exciting addition to the park has been generously sponsored by the Chinese embassy and the Children’s Special Fund. It marks a significant milestone as it will be the first time that children in Seychelles (except for those who have travelled abroad) will have the opportunity to enjoy a thrilling ride on the flying chair.

Seychelles hosting Indian Ocean mayors for annual general assembly.

Mayors and local government representatives from the Association of Cities and Communities of the Indian Ocean (AVCOI) are meeting in Seychelles this week. The 50-some delegates including their Seychellois counterparts have converged on the capital city of Victoria for their annual meeting which will end on Friday with their general assembly.Fourteen mayors from Mauritius, Madagascar, Reunion, Mayotte, and Comoros are attending the event at the International Conference Center of Seychelles. The Mayor of Victoria, David Andre said that the meeting is presenting the Indian Ocean nations with the opportunity to discuss their common objectives.

Seychelles’ capital city is renewing its relationship with the city of Shanghai in China.

A ‘Memorandum of Co-operation on Friendly Exchange’ between the two cities was signed on Friday by the Mayor of Victoria, David Andre, and the chairperson of the Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress, Yicui Yin. “In the agreement that we renewed, there are different areas that we would like to promote – business, trade, tourism, and culture among others. At the end of the day, the most important thing is how we can share the human experiences of our different people and cultures,” said Andre.

Seychelles’ capital explores sister-city relationship in China centering on tourism, art and environment.

Cultural, tourism, and artistic exchanges are possible areas of cooperation between Seychelles and China’s Liaoning Province, the mayor of the island nation’s capital city said after discussions to establish a sister city relationship kicked off. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Victoria and Shenyang city, the capital of the Liaoning Province, will enable the two cities to identify activities that can generate new initiatives to nurture the economic, social and cultural ties Seychelles and China share.
