
Seychelles’ capital to renew twinning relationship with Meizhou, China.
The Seychelles’ capital Victoria will renew an agreement with the city of Meizhou in China to rebuild a relationship which started two decades ago, said a top official. The Mayor of Victoria, David Andre, made the statement after meeting with a delegation of 10 from Meizhou on Wednesday. Andre said that the twinning agreement between Meizhou and Victoria was signed in 1998 by the first Mayor of Victoria, Florence Benstrong, and after that the relationship has been dormant.

Seychelles Ports Authority aims to minimise congestion during expansion work.
The Seychelles Ports Authority is working with port users on new measures to reduce congestion at Port Victoria when expansion work starts next year, said a top official. “We want to see if there are things that could be changed to allow faster clearance of containers which is now a major problem,” said Franky Laporte, the director of project and infrastructure told SNA. Laporte said the congestion is sometimes caused by how the port is being used and gave the example of some clearing agents storing containers in certain areas at the port before doing their clearance procedures. Hundreds of revelers converged in a loud street party in Victoria on Monday night to say goodbye to 2018 and to welcome the New Year. Seychellois bands and local artists provided live entertainment for the crowd. The highlight of the evening was the countdown to midnight and to 2019. As the clock tower — a smaller replica of the famous Big Ben of London — struck midnight, church bells rang in unison and people in the streets exchanged warm New Year’s wishes, with cheers, hugs and kisses – grateful to have made it to another year.

Seychellois mayor and artist creates anthem for all-Africa meeting in Marrakesh.
A Seychellois author and songwriter — David Andre — has produced the anthem for the United Cities and Local United Cities and Local Governments of Africa. The anthem was presented on Tuesday at the opening of the 8th Africities summit taking place in Marrakesh, Morocco from November 20 to 24. Andre, who is the Mayor of Victoria and a member of the executive committee of the organisation, was entrusted with the task of composing an anthem in a meeting with the Secretary-General, Jean-Pierre Elong-Mbassi.

New book portrays 240 years of change in Seychelles’ capital city.
A new book that is the first to recount the evolution of Victoria – the capital city of the Seychelles – was officially launched last Friday. ‘Victoria: Celebrating its 240th anniversary A Historical perspective’ is a collection of rare and resourceful pictures and texts which tell the story of Victoria from when it was established as a French settlement in 1778 to date. The book is a collaboration between the mayor of Victoria, David Andre, historian Tony Mathiot, and editor and publisher Georgina Dhillon.

Happy Youth Club: Seychelles’ oldest club commemorates 55 years.
Happy Youth Club — the oldest recreational club in Seychelles — is celebrating 55 years of existence.
