Students from Bel Eau Primary School, Plaisance Primary School, English River Primary School and Belonie Secondary School participated in a creative art activity entitled “The Town’s Fish Art Project”, aimed at beautifying Victoria and creating a more colourful backdrop for the National Day celebrations.
The activity was organised by the Mayor’s Office, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and took place this morning at the garden opposite Ocean Gate House in Victoria.
During the event, students painted colourful fish sculptures. that had been locally crafted, using a variety of vibrant colours and artistic designs. The finished fish were then displayed on a net installation in the garden, creating an eye-catching public art display.
The project provided an opportunity, for young people to contribute to the enhancement of the town’s public spaces through art and creativity, while fostering a sense of belonging, pride and connection to their community, especially now that the Seychelles is celebrating its 50th anniversary of its Independence.
The Town’s Fish Art Project forms part of the Mayor’s Office’s ongoing efforts to make Victoria brighter, more vibrant and engaging through cultural expression, community participation and youth involvement. The initiative reflects the Mayor’s vision of creating a lively town centre where art and creativity play an important role in enhancing the urban environment and bringing people together.
